Why We Display Our Pricing Upfront
Most private chef services hide their pricing. You have to request a quote, wait for a response, and negotiate. It's opaque, frustrating, and wastes everyone's time.
We display our pricing upfront on our website. Every curated menu shows per-person pricing. Service charges are included. Minimum spends are listed. You know what you'll pay before you contact us.
Here's why we do it — and why transparency matters more than flexibility.
The Industry Standard: Hidden Pricing
Most private chef services don't publish pricing. They list their services, show beautiful photos, and then ask you to "contact us for a quote."
Why they do this:
Flexibility: Hidden pricing lets them adjust based on the client. High-budget weddings get quoted higher. Smaller events get quoted lower. They negotiate based on perceived willingness to pay.
Avoid sticker shock: If guests see prices upfront and think they're too high, they might not inquire. By hiding pricing, they get a chance to sell the value first.
Competitive advantage: If competitors can't see their pricing, they can't undercut them.
The problem with hidden pricing:
It wastes time: You fill out a contact form, wait for a response, receive a quote, realize it's out of budget, and start over. The whole process takes days.
It's frustrating: You can't compare options easily. One chef quotes $200/guest, another quotes $300/guest, but the menus are different so you can't make an apples-to-apples comparison.
It feels like a negotiation: Hidden pricing creates the impression that the final price is flexible, which leads to back-and-forth haggling. Most people don't want to negotiate their private chef service.
We decided to do the opposite. Our pricing is public, transparent, and non-negotiable.
How We Display Pricing
Every curated menu on our website shows:
- Per-person pricing - What's included - Minimum spends Example: Signature Private Chef Experience
- $250 per guest (all-inclusive) - Includes: 4 courses, chef service, setup, cleanup, linen-like napkins - Minimum spend: $1,500 (covers up to 6 guests) - One clear upfront price You see the price. You see what's included. You know what you'll pay.
Why We Display Pricing Upfront
It saves time:
If our pricing fits your budget, you book. If it doesn't, you move on. No wasted consultation calls. No waiting for quotes.
It builds trust:
Transparency signals confidence. If we're comfortable publishing our prices, it means we stand behind them. Hidden pricing creates suspicion.
It's respectful:
Your time matters. You shouldn't have to fill out forms and wait days just to find out if a service is affordable. We respect your time by giving you the information upfront.
It simplifies decision-making:
When pricing is clear, you can compare options easily. Signature Experience vs. Chophouse Dinner. Private chef service vs. restaurant reservation. The choice is clearer when all the information is available.
It filters for the right clients:
Guests who book knowing our pricing are never surprised by the final invoice. They understand what they're paying for and why. That eliminates pricing disputes and sets expectations correctly from the start.
What About Custom Menus?
Custom menus require consultation for pricing, which means we can't display a fixed per-person rate on the website.
Why:
Custom pricing depends on:
- Menu complexity - Ingredient costs (filet mignon costs more than chicken) - Guest count - Service style (plated vs. family-style) - Event location (travel outside our primary service area incurs fees) - Service and staffing requirements We can't publish a single price that covers all custom events. But we're still transparent.
How we handle custom pricing:
During consultation, we provide a detailed proposal with per-person pricing broken down by component. You see exactly what you're paying for: ingredients, labor, service charge, travel fees (if applicable).
You approve the proposal before booking. The price you see in the proposal is the price you pay. No surprises.
How We Structure Pricing: No Hidden Charges
Our all-inclusive pricing structure varies by service type:
Private chef menus (Signature, Chophouse, Brunch, etc.):
One clear upfront price. The per-person rate you see covers everything: ingredients, chef labor, coordination, equipment, setup, and cleanup. No surprise line items.
Weddings and large custom events:
A service charge is included in the total to cover additional staffing costs for events requiring multiple chefs, servers, and coordinators. This is clearly stated in all proposals.
What service charges cover (when applicable):
- Overhead (commercial kitchen, insurance, licensing) - Event coordination and administrative work - Equipment maintenance - Supply costs (napkins, utensils, coolers, packing materials) - Team training and development What's NOT included:
Gratuity. Tips are completely optional and go directly to the chef and service team when provided.
Some private chef services hide additional fees in fine print, which means the final invoice is higher than the initial quote. We show you the total cost from the start — whether that's one all-inclusive price or a detailed proposal with all components listed.
How Our Pricing Compares
We're not the cheapest private chef service on the Emerald Coast. We're not trying to be.
What you're paying for:
Quality ingredients: Fresh Gulf seafood, USDA-inspected proteins, real butter, scratch-made stocks. No shortcuts.
Food safety: Zero incidents across 2,500+ events. Licensed commercial kitchen, rigorous protocols, documented processes.
Experience: Three chef-owners with professional training, 2,500+ events served, 650+ five-star reviews.
Reliability: Documented systems, backup chefs, event coordinators who handle logistics. You're not depending on one person.
Transparency: Clear pricing, detailed contracts, no hidden fees.
If your priority is finding the lowest price, we're probably not the right fit. If your priority is quality, reliability, and transparency, we're a strong choice.
What's Included in Our Pricing
All-inclusive pricing means exactly that: everything except alcohol and optional gratuity.
What's included:
- Admin and coordination - All ingredients - Chef labor (prep, cooking, service) - All cooking equipment and tools - Temperature-controlled ingredient transport - Table setting (plates, silverware, glassware provided by your rental) - Linen-like napkins - Complete kitchen cleanup - All operational costs (no hidden fees) What's NOT included:
- Alcohol (BYOB or available for an additional fee) - Plates and silverware (unless specifically requested we’ll use what’s in the home) - Glassware for cocktails (your rental should provide this) - Rentals (tables, chairs, linens) — we can arrange these separately if needed - Bartending service (available for additional fee) - Optional gratuity for chef and service team The pricing you see is what you pay. No surprise fees at checkout.
What About Negotiation?
Our pricing is not negotiable.
Why:
Consistency: If we negotiate with one client and not another, we're not treating clients fairly. Fixed pricing ensures everyone pays the same rate for the same service.
Sustainability: Our pricing reflects the true cost of delivering quality service. Discounting means cutting corners somewhere — ingredients, labor, or safety protocols. We don't do that.
Respect for our team: Our chefs and coordinators are compensated fairly based on our pricing structure. Discounting their work devalues their expertise.
If our pricing doesn't fit your budget, we understand. But we won't discount to make it work. Our pricing reflects the quality we deliver, and that quality is non-negotiable.
The Exception: Large Events and Multiple Bookings
We occasionally offer pricing adjustments for:
- Very large events (100+ guests): Economies of scale allow for slight per-person pricing reductions. - Multi-day bookings: If you're booking multiple meals over several days, we may offer a small discount on the total package. These adjustments are rare and determined on a case-by-case basis. But they're never the result of negotiation. We offer them proactively when it makes sense.
What Guests Say About Our Pricing
Common feedback:
"I appreciated knowing the exact cost before I called. Made the decision easy."
"The pricing seemed high at first, but after experiencing the meal, it was worth every penny."
"Other private chefs were vague about pricing. Marrow was upfront and transparent, which made me trust them more."
"No surprise fees. The price we were quoted was the price we paid. That's rare."
Guests value transparency. Even when our pricing is higher than competitors, they appreciate knowing what to expect.
Why Other Services Hide Pricing (And Why We Don't)
Hidden pricing works for some businesses. It lets them maximize revenue by adjusting based on the client. It lets them avoid direct price comparisons.
But it also creates friction, wastes time, and erodes trust.
We'd rather be transparent and let guests decide for themselves whether our pricing fits their budget. If it doesn't, that's fine. If it does, they book with confidence knowing exactly what they're paying for.
Transparency isn't a marketing tactic. It's how we operate.
Planning Your Event
Our pricing is displayed on our website for all curated menus. If you're planning a custom event, we'll provide a detailed proposal during consultation.
Either way, you'll know exactly what you're paying before you book. No surprises. No hidden fees. Just clear, transparent pricing.
